The NCC — Background

The National Cadet Corps was established on 15th July 1948 under the NCC Act of 1948. It arose from the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) which was established by the British in 1942.

NCC opened its doors to girls, establishing the Girls Division to promote gender equality and empower young women through military-style training and discipline.

1952

Air Wing Formation

The Air Wing was established to provide aviation training and inspire cadets to join the Indian Air Force, adding a new dimension to NCC training.

1958

Naval Wing Established

The Naval Wing was created to train cadets in maritime activities and prepare them for careers in the Indian Navy, completing the tri-service structure.

Modern NCC

Today, the National Cadet Corps is one of India's largest uniformed youth organizations, with cadets enrolled through schools, colleges, and universities across the country. (NCC enrollment, training, and certification are run by the NCC and its authorities — not by NCC.training.)
